Origin Story

Name: Jade Rivera-McFarlin
DOB: November 12, 1982
Super powers: Able to control all thing TV and media related.

Every superhero has an origin story and I'm no different.

For as long as I can remember I have been a communicator. I remember my mother telling me that I should get a job talking one day because I do it so much... It has been a lifelong goal of mine to learn as many language as in can so I can communicate with everyone I meet.

As for the powers, it all started my first time I was on television. I was 9 years old and my grandmother Joyce the actress, story teller and model, had me star in her holiday story telling show on the Local public access station.  I can still feel still the heat of the studio lights and see the glare of the camera lenses.  I was young but knew at that moment I was where I was suppose to be.

For years I found myself drawn to and obsessed with television and everything about it.  I started to see it differently. I could see the edit points on phony infomercials and would recite scenes word for word.  I watched and studied the Today show.  News anchors like Ann Curry and Matt Lauer were she childhood heroes.

So how did it happen? My theory is the early exposure to studio the lights infused me with super television powers. However, like most super powers It wasn't until I entered high school where my TV superpowers truly manifested.

Springfield Central High school's Studio 86 was where it all went down.  I signed up for broadcast television production classes my sophomore year and learned how to control my powers and hone my skills.  I learned how to write scripts, edit video and even anchor the school news live.  The more I was exposed the more I learned and the stronger I got.

With that said, I have dedicated myself to being an effective communicator.  Whether it was delivering the news to the people of western Massachusetts as television reporter to managing social and media relations for major businesses, organizations and regional events.

I graduated from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach Florida, with a major in Mass Communications and broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish.  After college I went on to be a producer and Live reporter for the NBC affiliate station in Springfield, Ma.  I spent 3 years in local television and Then decided to start my own business.  After handling all of the social media, marketing, promotions and coordinating events for my business, my love for public relations was born.

I went on and took my experiences in writing, social media, broadcast and promotions and took a job as a public relation specialist at a larger health system.  It was there that I gained valuable experience and was able to hone my skills as a PR specialist.  I've since had the chance to work with a number of local organizations including servicing as the Spokesperson for the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade.

After working for a number of large organizations, I realized that there were other business and individuals in need public relations services.  It was out of that need that the idea for Communication Maven & Associates was born.
